She earned her medical degree from Des Moines University College of Osteopathic Medicine and completed her internal medicine residency at the University of Illinois College of Medicine at Peoria, where she also served as chief resident. She completed a fellowship in pulmonary and critical care medicine at Baylor Scott & White, Texas A&M.
