About Caroline Spitznagel

Professional Statement

Dr. Caroline Spitznagel is a board-certified internal medicine physician with Roper St. Francis Physician Partners Primary Care. She provides comprehensive primary care for adults, with special interests in hypertension, diabetes, high cholesterol and caring for people as they age.

She earned her medical degree from the Medical University of South Carolina, where she also completed her internal medicine residency and served as chief resident. She holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and completed additional coursework at the College of Charleston.

Dr. Spitznagel’s path to medicine was nontraditional, beginning with degrees in journalism and global studies and time spent teaching in the classroom with Teach for America. Those experiences deepened her love of human connection and communication and ultimately led her to a career in medicine. Today, she brings that same spirit of listening and partnership to her practice, where she works closely with patients to prevent illness, manage chronic conditions and achieve their health goals.

She enjoys building long-term relationships with her patients and values the trust that grows from truly knowing them as individuals. Listening closely is central to her approach. She takes time to understand each patient’s story, goals and challenges and works with them to create personalized care plans that fit their lives.

Outside of work, Dr. Spitznagel enjoys spending time with her husband and their young son, especially when cooking together or exploring Charleston’s natural beauty.
