About Brian Cuddy
Professional Statement
Dr. Brian Cuddy is a board-certified neurosurgeon with extensive training and leadership experience in both medicine and military service. He earned his medical degree from Albany Medical College and completed his internship in general surgery and residency in neurological surgery at the Medical University of South Carolina. He went on to complete a fellowship in spinal surgery at the Medical College of Wisconsin.
Dr. Cuddy has held academic appointments as a clinical professor of neurosurgery at MUSC and adjunct associate professor of bioengineering at Clemson University. In July 2000, he was appointed by the South Carolina governor as chairman of the South Carolina Spinal Cord Injury Research Fund. He is a past president of the South Carolina Spine Society and an active member of several national neurosurgical societies.
Dr. Cuddy currently serves as a colonel and surgeon in the U.S. Army Reserve. He has deployed to the Middle East with the 30th Armored Brigade in support of Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Spartan Shield. He is a former chief of staff at Bon Secours St. Francis Hospital and has served as chairman of the Roper St. Francis Healthcare Board of Directors since 2015.
