About Brian Dewhirst

Dr. Brian Dewhirst is a board-certified family medicine physician with Roper St. Francis Physician Partners Primary Care.

He is from Kansas and attended the University of Kansas, where he earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in Chemistry. He then received his Medical Doctorate from the University of Kansas School of Medicine, where he graduated with Alpha Omega Alpha Honors. From there, Dr. Dewhirst traveled to Charleston, SC, and completed his family medicine residency at the Trident/MUSC Family Medicine Residency Program. He was elected chief resident during his final year.
For Dr. Dewhirst, pursuing a career in the medical field allowed him to merge three of his core passions–science, technology and teaching. Since completing his residency, he has served as a medical student preceptor through MUSC, allowing him the opportunity to teach and work closely with students. Dr. Dewhirst believes that healthcare is a team approach and should involve everyone, from doctors and nurses to patients and their families. He recognizes that quality healthcare starts with a foundation of trust and requires healthcare providers to get to know their patients as the unique individuals they are. What he enjoys most about his profession is building meaningful relationships with his patients and their families.
When he’s not working, Dr. Dewhirst loves spending time with his wife and two daughters. He has a particular passion for the outdoors, especially running on the beach or hiking in the woods. He also enjoys skiing, playing guitar, reading history books and listening to music. Dr. Dewhirst is a member of the American Academy of Family Physicians.
