About
Professional Statement
Dr. Christopher Abadi is a noninvasive cardiologist and director of echocardiography with Roper St. Francis Physician Partners Coastal Cardiology. He cares for adults with heart and vascular conditions, with clinical interests in valvular heart disease, aortic disease and atrial fibrillation, and he specializes in advanced cardiac imaging.
Clinical interests and services include:
- General cardiology evaluation and management
- Valvular heart disease
- Aortic disease
- Atrial fibrillation
- Advanced echocardiography, including three-dimensional and transesophageal imaging
- Imaging for structural heart procedures
Much of Dr. Abadi’s work involves echocardiography, which uses sound waves to produce moving images of the heart as it beats. The detailed views show how well the heart is pumping, whether its valves are opening and closing properly, and whether the aorta is healthy, all without radiation. He also performs the imaging that guides catheter-based procedures to repair heart valves. During these procedures, a specialist provides a live three-dimensional view of the heart and directs the interventionalist in real time. It is the reason many patients with serious valve conditions can be treated without open-heart surgery.
Dr. Abadi brings more than 20 years of practice experience. He works to be thorough and compassionate in evaluating and communicating with patients, to explain things in a way patients can understand, and to make decisions together with the people in his care.
Teaching and research have been part of his work throughout his career. He has served as a clinical assistant professor of medicine at The Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University, and he has directed hospital echocardiography programs for almost two decades. His recent research examines how artificial intelligence can improve cardiac imaging, and he has published on echocardiography and valvular heart disease.
Dr. Abadi is board-certified in cardiovascular disease and holds comprehensive certification in adult echocardiography from the National Board of Echocardiography. He is a fellow of the American College of Cardiology and a member of the American Society of Echocardiography.
Dr. Abadi earned his Bachelor of Science in biology from Boston College, then returned to his home state of Vermont for medical school at the University of Vermont College of Medicine, where he was elected to the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society. He completed his internal medicine internship and residency and his cardiology fellowship at the University of Massachusetts Medical Center, and a clinical research fellowship in echocardiography at Tufts Medical Center.
Outside of work, Dr. Abadi is a big sports fan who enjoys golf (sometimes), time on the water and spending time with his wife and their three children.
