About Colin Edgerton
Professional Statement
Dr. Edgerton earned his Bachelor of Science from Georgetown University and graduated cum laude from Georgetown University School of Medicine in 2001. A member of the Alpha Omega Alpha medical honor society, he was recognized as the top internal medicine resident in 2004 with the Robert Skelton Award. He completed his rheumatology fellowship at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in 2006.
From 2006 to 2013, Dr. Edgerton served as the Rheumatology Service Chief at Eisenhower Army Medical Center and held faculty positions at the Medical College of Georgia and the Uniformed Services University. A pioneer in musculoskeletal ultrasound, he established the ultrasound training program at the Medical College of Georgia and contributes to national guidelines on ultrasound usage through the American College of Rheumatology. His research, particularly in systemic lupus erythematosus and rheumatoid arthritis, has been widely published and presented internationally.
Board-certified in internal medicine and rheumatology, Dr. Edgerton is a fellow of both the American College of Physicians and the American College of Rheumatology. He serves on the Board of Directors and as a committee chair for the American College of Rheumatology and is a voting member of the American Medical Association House of Delegates. He is a recognized expert in value-based medicine and has advised Congress and various stakeholders on treatment pathways and alternative payment models.
After a distinguished 12-year career as a U.S. Army physician, attaining the rank of Lieutenant Colonel and earning a Bronze Star for valor, Dr. Edgerton joined Low Country Rheumatology in 2013.
Outside of work, Dr. Edgerton enjoys spending time with his wife and two daughters and engaging in activities such as choral singing, swimming, and sailing.
