Connor Oates, MD

Dr. Connor Oates is a cardiac electrophysiologist with Roper St. Francis Physician Partners Carolina Arrhythmia. He specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of complex heart rhythm disorders, caring for patients who need answers and a clear path forward.

His clinical interests and services include:

• Atrial fibrillation diagnosis and ablation
• Supraventricular and ventricular tachycardia ablation
• Pacemaker and leadless pacemaker implantation
• Implantable cardioverter-defibrillator placement
• Left atrial appendage occlusion
• Cardioneural ablation
• Conduction system and physiologic pacing

Dr. Oates's path to electrophysiology began long before medical school. As a college student at the College of William and Mary, he volunteered at a free medical clinic in Williamsburg, Virginia – an experience that showed him what it felt like to be at home in medicine, working alongside a team to solve problems for people who needed help. That sense of purpose has guided him ever since.

He went on to earn his medical degree from the University of Maryland School of Medicine, where he received the Certificate of Outstanding Achievement in Research. He completed his internal medicine residency at Mount Sinai Hospital, his cardiovascular disease fellowship at MedStar Georgetown University Hospital and his cardiac electrophysiology fellowship at Mount Sinai Fuster Heart Hospital. Along the way, he has authored and co-authored more than 30 peer-reviewed publications and contributed a chapter to a leading textbook on catheter ablation of cardiac arrhythmias.

Dr. Oates believes that patients should be active participants in their own care. He takes time to make sure every person he sees understands what is happening with their heart and what options are available to them, because informed patients, in his experience, are better equipped to navigate what comes next.

Dr. Oates is board certified in internal medicine and is a Diplomate of the National Board of Echocardiography. He is a member of the American College of Cardiology and the Heart Rhythm Society.

Outside of work, Dr. Oates is working toward a personal goal of seeing his Baltimore Orioles play in every Major League ballpark. He also enjoys traveling to the beach with his family and their French bulldogs.
