About Gene Saylors
Professional Statement
Dr. Gene Saylors is board-certified in medical oncology and internal medicine. A Charleston native, he earned a Bachelor of Science in cellular biology from the University of Georgia and a Doctor of Medicine from the University of South Carolina School of Medicine. He completed his internship and residency in internal medicine at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, where he also completed a fellowship in hematology and medical oncology.
Dr. Saylors recently served as a primary investigator in a groundbreaking lung cancer trial, enrolling the most patients worldwide. His work was published in The New England Journal of Medicine. He has also contributed to research published in the Journal of Clinical Oncology, the Journal of General Internal Medicine and Biology of Blood and Marrow Transplantation.
As immediate past president of the South Carolina Oncology Society, Dr. Saylors is committed to improving patient care statewide and nationally. He remains actively involved in clinical research and treats all types of cancer and blood disorders, with a focus on:
