About George Durst Jr.

Professional Statement

Dr. George Durst is a board-certified family medicine physician with Roper St. Francis Physician Partners Primary Care – Durst Family Medicine.

He specializes in:

  • General medicine
  • Gastrointestinal and cardiovascular conditions
  • Headaches and musculoskeletal pain
  • Dermatology, including identifying and excising skin cancers.
  • Joint and trigger point injections
  • Psychiatric care

Dr. Durst earned his medical degree from the Medical College of South Carolina (now MUSC), where he also completed his internship and residency in internal medicine. Dr. Durst has been board certified in family medicine and has over five decades of experience.

He is a veteran of the United States Army, where he served as Chief of Outpatient Services and Deputy Medical Director of a U.S. Embassy Medical Unit. After his military service, Dr. Durst joined his father, Dr. George G. Durst Sr, in private practice in 1970. In addition to his clinical work, Dr. Durst has been a professor of family medicine since the 1970s, teaching future generations of physicians.

His care philosophy, shaped by years of experience, is simple: “The patient is trying to tell you the diagnosis. Listening carefully is the key.” Dr. Durst believes that truly hearing his patients is essential to helping them improve their overall health.

Outside of medicine, Dr. Durst enjoys sailing and playing the violin in the Mount Pleasant Symphony Orchestra. He has also served as Chairman of Charleston County Parks for many years, contributing to his local community.
