Jake Altier, MD

Dr. Jake Altier is a board-certified rheumatologist with Roper St. Francis Rheumatology, a department of Bon Secours St. Francis Hospital.

He specializes in diagnosing and managing autoimmune and inflammatory conditions including:

• Rheumatoid arthritis
• Lupus
• Psoriatic arthritis
• Vasculitis and osteoporosis

Originally from Sarasota, Florida, he earned his medical degree from the University of Central Florida College of Medicine. He completed his residency in internal medicine at the Medical University of South Carolina where he later pursued a fellowship in rheumatology.

He is dedicated to providing comprehensive patient-centered care, focusing on long-term disease management and improving his patients’ quality of life. His approach emphasizes clear communication, collaboration and evidence-based treatments tailored to each individual’s needs.

Passionate about staying at the forefront of rheumatology, Dr. Altier remains engaged in research and new treatment advancements to offer his patients the most up-to-date care options.

Outside of work, Dr. Altier enjoys exploring Charleston’s vibrant food scene with his wife, playing guitar and reading. He also loves spending time with his golden retriever Mowgli and three cats Dot, Panda and Boba.
