About John Litchfield
Professional Statement
Dr. John Litchfield is board certified in Gastroenterology, specializing in general gastroenterology with a focus on colorectal cancer prevention, inflammatory bowel disease, upper GI tract disorders (esophagus and stomach), and chronic liver disease.
Originally from Tennessee, Dr. Litchfield developed an interest in medicine during high school, inspired by his three physician brothers. He earned his Bachelor’s degree in philosophy and pre-medical studies from Franciscan University, followed by his medical degree from the West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine in 2009. He completed his internal medicine residency at East Tennessee State University, where he served as Chief Resident of Internal Medicine in 2012. Subsequently, he pursued his Gastroenterology fellowship at the same institution, graduating in 2015.
Throughout his fellowship, Dr. Litchfield was actively involved in teaching medical students and internal medicine residents, recognized with induction into the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society for his academic achievements and dedication to education.
Dr. Litchfield joined Palmetto Digestive in March 2016 and holds Board Certification from the American Board of Internal Medicine in Gastroenterology and Internal Medicine. He is a member of the American College of Gastroenterology, American Gastroenterological Association, and the South Carolina Gastroenterology Association.
Outside of medicine, John, his wife Kristen, and their five-year-old son Athan are avid outdoor enthusiasts. They enjoy surfing, soccer, biking, fishing, and hiking together.
