About

Professional Statement

Dr. Kathleen Hogan is a board-certified orthopedic surgeon with Roper St. Francis Physician Partners Orthopaedics, specializing in hip and knee replacement. Fellowship-trained in joint replacement, she brings nearly two decades of experience helping patients move more comfortably and return to the activities they love.

Clinical interests and services include:

  • Anterior hip replacement
  • Total knee replacement
  • Partial knee replacement
  • Robotic-assisted knee replacement (Mako)
  • Hip and knee revision surgery

Dr. Hogan's path to orthopedics began with an injury of her own. After tearing the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in her knee as a high school basketball player, her recovery introduced her to the field and to the surgeons who help people rebuild strength and mobility. That early experience shaped her career and her lasting commitment to helping patients get back to active, full lives.

Dr. Hogan understands that choosing to have surgery, especially a hip or knee replacement, takes trust. She spends time getting to know each patient, understanding their concerns and making sure their expectations are clear before moving forward. Her goal is always the same: to relieve pain and restore the ability to stay active and independent. The most rewarding moments, she says, come when patients tell her she helped them get their life back, whether that means playing with grandchildren, traveling or returning to the sports they love.

Giving back is central to how Dr. Hogan practices. She serves with Women's Orthopaedic Global Outreach, a team of female surgeons who travel to medically underserved countries to perform joint replacement surgeries at no cost to patients.

Dr. Hogan earned her medical degree from Brown University School of Medicine and completed her orthopedic surgery residency at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston. She went on to complete a fellowship in joint replacement surgery at Harvard Medical School and Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston. She earned her bachelor's degree in biology and chemistry from Providence College.

Outside of work, Dr. Hogan is happy to be back in Charleston and enjoys staying active outdoors. She plays tennis, runs, hikes, paddleboards and surfs, and as an avid skier, she looks forward to chasing snow in the winter months.
