About Kay Durst

Professional Statement

Dr. Kay Durst is a board-certified family medicine physician with Roper St. Francis Physician Partners Primary Care. She earned her medical degree from the Medical University of South Carolina and completed her residency at the University of Miami-Jackson Memorial Medical Center.

Dr. Durst grew up in Atlanta and Charleston and has also lived in Chicago and Puerto Rico and studied in France. She had her own practice in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, for years before returning to Charleston. While in Miami, she was actively involved in the community and received multiple awards for her contributions.

As a third-generation family medicine doctor, Dr. Durst continues the legacy of her grandfather, who founded their family practice over 80 years ago. Inspired by the examples set by her father and grandfather, Dr. Durst is dedicated to educating her patients about their health conditions and providing them with the tools they need to achieve overall wellness.

Dr. Durst holds a certificate in lifestyle medicine and a CHEF culinary medicine certificate from Harvard. She is passionate about integrating lifestyle medicine into her practice and enjoys teaching her patients about the healing potential of culinary medicine and the arts while supporting evidence-based medical care.

An active member of the American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP), Dr. Durst is an AAFP Fellow and has completed the AAFP Physician Wellness Scholar Program and the AAFP Leading Physician Wellness Educator Program. She has also served as vice president of the South Carolina AAFP and currently serves as president of the Charleston County Medical Society, where she is involved with its Health and Wellness Committee. She is passionate about working with the foundation Closing the Gap in Healthcare for all patients.

In 2023, Dr. Durst was honored as a Lowcountry Remarkable Woman finalist, an accolade that celebrates women who inspire, lead, and pave the way for others. She has also been recognized with the PMG Mother of All Educative Awards, the Charleston Choice Award and HealthLinks Best Primary Care Doctor.

Outside of her practice, Dr. Durst is dedicated to community service. She volunteers with several organizations, including the March of Dimes, Bee Brave Buddies, and the Roper St. Francis Foundation. In her free time, she enjoys gardening, sailing, photography and playing the piano.
