Melissa Hunter, MD

Dr. Melissa Hunter is a board-certified family medicine physician with Roper St. Francis Physician Partners Primary Care. She earned her medical degree from the Medical University of South Carolina, completed her family medicine internship and residency at McLeod Regional Medical Center, and pursued a fellowship in faculty development at UNC Chapel Hill.

In addition to the prevention and management of chronic diseases, Dr. Hunter provides comprehensive care through a variety of in-office procedures. She has a special interest in women's health and polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS). Some of the procedures she performs include:

• Endometrial biopsies
• Nexplanon insertion and removal
• Skin biopsies
• Toenail removal
• IUD removal and insertion
• Joint injections

Dr. Hunter's approach to medicine involves managing both the clinical and psychological aspects of illnesses. She believes in truly getting to know her patients as members of the community and their families, which helps her provide personalized and effective care. She values the holistic understanding of her patients' lives and health issues, allowing her to offer more compassionate and tailored treatment.

Working in a nonprofit health system is a bonus for Dr. Hunter, as she appreciates the focus beyond just profitability. She loves being part of an organization that prioritizes the well-being of the community and offers comprehensive care to all patients.

Outside of her practice, Dr. Hunter enjoys reading, attending and watching college sports and cooking. She and her husband actively support several community efforts, including those through Seacoast Church. They are also passionate about empowering women and supporting women's college athletics programs.
