About Michael Marte

Dr. Michael Marte is a medical oncologist with Charleston Oncology, a department of Bon Secours St. Francis Hospital. He is board-certified in internal medicine, hematology and medical oncology and has more than 20 years of experience caring for patients with cancer and blood disorders. He is a retired lieutenant colonel in the U.S. Army Medical Corps.

Throughout his career, Dr. Marte has served in leadership roles, including department chief and medical director of cancer centers. He has led multidisciplinary oncology teams, helped build and support full-service infusion programs, and served as a principal investigator on clinical trials designed to improve cancer outcomes in community settings.

Patients can feel confident knowing Dr. Marte has cared for a wide range of complex cases across military, academic and private practice environments. His experience includes inpatient oncology, outpatient infusion services and integrating the latest evidence into everyday care.

Dr. Marte believes in patient-centered care and takes time to help patients understand their options. He is committed to compassionate care that supports the best possible quality of life, while pursuing the most effective, evidence-based treatment plan for each individual.

Dr. Marte earned his medical degree from Albert Einstein College of Medicine. He completed an internal medicine residency and a hematology and oncology fellowship at Walter Reed Army Medical Center. Before entering medicine, he earned degrees in mathematics and electrical engineering. He practiced as an electrical engineer.

Outside of work, he enjoys spending time with his family, learning languages, traveling, reading and relaxing at the beach.
