Michelle Shankland, PAC

Michelle Shankland is a nationally certified physician assistant with the Roper St. Francis Healthcare Osteoporosis and Fracture Program. She specializes in osteoporosis and metabolic bone disease, helping patients understand their bone health and take an active role in protecting it.

Her clinical interests and services include:

• Osteoporosis diagnosis and management
• Metabolic bone disease
• Fracture risk assessment and prevention
• Bone density evaluation
• Long-term bone health planning

Michelle's connection to healthcare started early. At 12 years old, she began volunteering at a hospital where her father worked, and she has been working in healthcare in some capacity ever since. That early foundation shaped a career built on presence and purpose. She has experience in hospital medicine and critical care and as a hospice volunteer, experiences that deepened her belief that quality of life matters as much as length of it.

In practice, Michelle believes in spending meaningful time with each patient, making shared, informed decisions and ensuring every person she cares for feels supported in protecting the life they want to live.

Michelle earned her Master of Science in Physician Assistant Studies and her Bachelor of Science with a minor in psychology.

Outside of work, Michelle does CrossFit, loves reading and is an avid coffee drinker. She also enjoys traveling internationally and to national parks with her family.
