About Nicholas Schmidt Jr.
Professional Statement
Dr. Nicholas Schmidt Jr. is board-certified in internal medicine, oncology and hematology and practices with Charleston Oncology. He earned a bachelor’s degree in biology from the University of South Carolina Honors College and a medical degree from the University of South Carolina School of Medicine. Dr. Schmidt completed his residency in internal medicine and his fellowship in hematology and oncology at the University of Virginia in Charlottesville.
He is an active member of the USC School of Medicine Saunders Humanism Honor Society, the American Society of Clinical Oncology and the American Society of Hematology. Dr. Schmidt has published research in multiple peer-reviewed journals. During his fellowship, he was first author of a chapter in Targeting Oncogenic Drivers and Signaling Pathways in Lymphoid Malignancies, Volume 1, a textbook on lymphoma. He also contributed to abstracts presented at the ASCO QI Symposium and the Pan Pacific Lymphoma Conference.
Before joining Charleston Oncology as a private practitioner, Dr. Schmidt served as a hematology and oncology hospitalist at the University of Virginia. A native of Summerville, South Carolina, he lives in Mount Pleasant with his wife and three children.
