Nitesh Patel, MD

Dr. Nitesh Patel is a neurosurgeon with Roper St. Francis Physician Partners Neurosurgery and Spine. He specializes in neuroendovascular surgery, a minimally invasive approach to treating complex conditions of the brain and spine.

Clinical interests and services include:

• Stroke, including emergency treatment of acute stroke
• Brain aneurysms and vascular malformations of the brain and spine
• Carotid artery disease
• Brain and spine tumors
• Chronic subdural hematoma
• Spine conditions, including herniated discs and spinal stenosis

Dr. Patel completed his residency in neurological surgery and a fellowship in endovascular neurosurgery at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. He earned his medical degree from Texas A&M College of Medicine.

Neuroendovascular surgery treats conditions of the brain and spine through the body's own blood vessels, often without open surgery. Using thin catheters guided by advanced imaging, Dr. Patel can reach and treat aneurysms, stroke and other complex conditions through a small access point, which can mean less risk and a faster recovery for many patients. He is proud to bring this advanced level of neurovascular care to patients across the Lowcountry.

Dr. Patel was the first in his family to attend college, an opportunity made possible by his parents' support and sacrifices. He saw his education as a privilege to be used in service of others, and medicine was a natural fit.

He believes every patient deserves care that is technically exceptional, compassionate and tailored to their diagnosis. Every treatment decision begins with understanding the patient as a person — their symptoms, their concerns and their goals. Dr. Patel takes time to listen to patients and their families, help them understand the diagnosis and walk through the available options, then works alongside them to build an individualized plan that offers the safest, most effective path forward while protecting their quality of life.

What he finds most meaningful is helping patients through some of the most frightening moments of their lives. His greatest satisfaction comes from giving patients the best chance to recover, regain their independence and return to the people and activities they love.

Outside of work, Dr. Patel enjoys spending time with his family, traveling and trying new foods and restaurants.
