Dr. R. Morgan Stuart is a board-certified neurosurgeon and Charleston native who has practiced at Roper St. Francis Healthcare for more than 15 years. He specializes in all aspects of spine surgery and in the treatment of both primary and metastatic brain tumors.

His specialties include:

  • Spinal stenosis and degenerative conditions of the neck and back

Dr. Stuart earned his undergraduate degree from Duke University and his medical degree from the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. He completed his neurological surgery residency at the Neurological Institute of New York at Columbia University Medical Center.

During his time at Columbia, he conducted research on advanced neuro-monitoring techniques for acute brain injury and has authored numerous scientific publications and book chapters.

He believes that combining the latest surgical advancements with a strong physician-patient relationship offers the best opportunity to care for patients with complex neurosurgical conditions.

Dr. Stuart is a member of several professional organizations, including the American Association of Neurological Surgeons and the Congress of Neurological Surgeons, where he serves on the Practice-Based Neurosurgeons Committee. He is a past president of both the South Carolina Association of Neurological Surgeons and the South Carolina Spine Society.

In 2017, he received the Roper St. Francis Foundation Physician Champion Award.
