About Richard Kline Jr.
Professional Statement
Dr. Kline underwent specialized training in microsurgery under the guidance of Dr. Robert Allen, renowned for pioneering techniques like DIEP, SIEA, and GAP perforator flap breast reconstruction, during his plastic surgery residency at LSU. Reflecting on this period, Dr. Kline remarked, "We knew that [Dr. Allen] was on to something very exciting, but I doubt anyone back then foresaw just how sought after those procedures would become."
Following his training, Dr. Kline embarked on a distinguished career in academic surgical practice, commencing at LSU in New Orleans before joining the Medical University of South Carolina. There, he achieved the milestone of performing the first successful DIEP flap in the southeastern United States. Transitioning to private practice in 2000, his practice swiftly garnered a reputation as a regional referral center for complex microsurgical reconstruction. Over time, the focus shifted predominantly to microsurgical breast reconstruction. "Our passion is restoring women’s body image after mastectomy using only their own natural tissue. We and our entire staff feel very privileged to be able to use our skills to help so many people in this way," Dr. Kline emphasized.
A native of Charleston, Dr. Kline resides near his childhood home, close to his parents. Fate brought him together with his wife Elizabeth, a thoracic surgeon, in the operating room. They are now proud parents to their daughter Bellamy and son Mahlon.
