Dr. Robert Moran is a board-certified gastroenterologist with Roper St. Francis Physician Partners Gastroenterology, focusing on advanced diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopic procedures. After completing his medical degree from University College Dublin in Ireland, he moved to the United States, spending seven years training at the Johns Hopkins hospital, where he completed his internal medicine residency, gastroenterology fellowship and therapeutic endoscopy fellowship.

Dr. Moran brings extensive clinical experience and academic leadership, including serving as an associate professor of medicine at the Medical University of South Carolina. He specializes in treating complex gastrointestinal conditions, including:

  • Chronic and acute pancreatitis
  • Biliary obstructions
  • Pancreatic and bile duct cancers
  • Ssophageal disorders such as achalasia and Zenker's diverticulum

His expertise includes performing advanced, minimally invasive procedures for a wide spectrum of GI diseases, these include: endoscopic ultrasound (EUS); endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP); EUS-guided transmural drainage of (peri) pancreatic collections (including pseudocysts; endoscopic treat of gastrointestinal polyps and early cancers via endoscopic mucosal resection (EMR), EUS guided enteroenterostomy (EUS gastrojejunostomy and Endoscopic ultrasound Directed transGastric ERCP); endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD) and endoscopic tunneling and submucosal resection (STER); perioral endoscopic myotomy (POEM) for management of achalasia, cricopharyngeal bars and Zenker’s diverticulum; endoscopic management/closure of fistulas; endoscopic management/closure of GI perforations/leaks; endoscopic suturing; and, endoscopic treatments for obesity, including sleeve gastroplasty and transoral gastric outlet reduction (eTOR).

Dr. Moran believes in giving patients the full, honest and open picture of their condition and discussing all available treatment options, so that patients can confidently participate in decision making. He works closely with a multidisciplinary team to deliver compassionate, patient-centered treatment for even the most complicated GI cases.

Originally from Ireland, Dr. Moran now calls Charleston home. Outside of work, he enjoys spending time with his family, cycling and watching rugby.
