About Sarah Russo
Professional Statement
Dr. Sarah Brice Russo is a board-certified psychiatrist and addiction psychiatrist with Roper St. Francis Physician Partners Behavioral Medicine. She cares for adults with a wide range of mental health needs, including anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder and substance use disorders.
Dr. Russo’s care philosophy centers on partnership. She encourages her patients to be active collaborators in their care, creating treatment plans that reflect their individual values, goals and needs. She emphasizes that mental health care is not one-size-fits-all and believes patients should feel heard and supported in shaping their treatment.
She views medications as just one part of a holistic approach to care. In addition to prescribing when appropriate, Dr. Russo often coordinates with therapists, recommends psychotherapy and encourages patients to engage in other forms of self-care that support long-term wellbeing. Her goal is always to keep treatment focused on improving overall quality of life.
Dr. Russo completed an addiction psychiatry fellowship and a general psychiatry residency at the Medical University of South Carolina, where she also served as chief resident. She earned her MD and PhD through MUSC’s Medical Scientist Training Program and holds a bachelor’s degree in biological sciences from Clemson University.
Outside of work, Dr. Russo values time with family and is committed to serving the Charleston community.
