Sheel Patel-Polk, DO

Dr. Sheel Patel-Polk is a board-certified general surgeon and thoracic surgeon with Roper St. Francis Physician Partners Thoracic Surgery. She provides surgical care for patients with lung and esophageal disorders and cancers.

Her specialties include:

• Esophageal cancer and related pathologies
• Lung cancer
• Mediastinal masses (growths between the lungs)
• Diaphragm disorders
• Chest wall disorders, including pectus excavatum

Dr. Patel-Polk offers compassionate, evidence-based care from diagnosis through treatment. She is trained in advanced minimally invasive surgical techniques such as esophagectomies, lung resections and Nuss procedures.

She earned her osteopathic medical degree and a master’s in health science administration from Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine in Bradenton, Florida. She completed her general surgery residency at Detroit Medical Center and her cardiothoracic surgery fellowship at University of Kentucky Healthcare in Lexington.

Inspired by Roper St. Francis Healthcare’s not-for-profit model, Dr. Patel-Polk volunteers at community events providing medical services to those without regular healthcare access. She is also a published author, research presenter and student tutor.

In her free time, Dr. Patel-Polk enjoys chess, painting, traveling and spending time with her family and two dogs.
