Professional Statement

Dr. Shelly Christiansen Shand graduated from the University of Georgia and earned her medical degree from Mercer University School of Medicine in her hometown of Savannah. She completed her internship and residency in internal medicine at the University of Utah in Salt Lake City, where she was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society for her teaching, professionalism and scholarship. Dr. Shand then completed a fellowship in hematology and medical oncology at the Lombardi Comprehensive Cancer Center at Georgetown University Hospital in Washington, D.C.

Dr. Shand has been at the forefront of oncology research, leading clinical trials and developing protocols in breast cancer, immunotherapy and melanoma. She has presented her research at national conferences, including the annual American Society of Clinical Oncology meeting, and has authored publications and abstracts on various topics in hematology and oncology.

While deeply committed to clinical research, Dr. Shand prioritizes patient care. She combines advanced treatments with personalized care plans tailored to her patients’ unique needs. She is board-certified and a member of the American College of Physicians, the American Society of Clinical Oncology, the American Society of Hematology and the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society. Dr. Shand joined Charleston Oncology in 2018.

She is married and enjoys spending time with family, friends and her two cats. Her hobbies include traveling, practicing yoga and exploring Charleston’s culinary scene.
