About

Professional Statement

Dr. Walker Heffron is a fellowship-trained orthopedic surgeon with Roper St. Francis Physician Partners Orthopaedics, specializing in conditions of the hand, wrist and upper extremity. A Charleston native, he is excited to return home and care for patients throughout the Lowcountry.

Dr. Heffron cares for patients across the spectrum of hand and upper extremity conditions, from initial evaluation through treatment and recovery. His goal is to help patients restore strength and function and return to the activities that matter most to them.

Clinical interests and services include:

  • Arthritis of the hand and wrist
  • Athletic injuries of the hand and wrist
  • Hand and wrist fractures and trauma
  • Carpal tunnel, cubital tunnel and other nerve conditions
  • Wrist arthroscopy
  • Hand and wrist joint replacement
  • Tendon injuries and reconstruction

Dr. Heffron's interest in hand surgery developed from a lifelong appreciation for science, anatomy and the technical precision of surgery. His own background as a competitive athlete also shaped his understanding of how injuries can affect a person's work, recreation and quality of life. He strives to provide thoughtful, individualized care while helping patients understand their treatment options and what to expect throughout recovery. He takes pride in helping patients get back to the things they love. For him, it is a privilege to be trusted with the care of the community that raised him.

Dr. Heffron completed his hand, upper extremity and microvascular surgery fellowship at Brown University. He earned his medical degree from the Medical University of South Carolina and completed his orthopedic surgery residency at MUSC, where he served as chief resident. He earned his bachelor's degree in biology, graduating summa cum laude, from Wofford College.

Outside of work, Dr. Heffron enjoys spending time with his wife and their dog, and loves the Lowcountry's beaches, waterways and restaurants. A former Division I tennis player, he stays active with tennis, other racket sports and golf.
